SPAY VIRGINIA HOTLINE OPERATOR - Virginia Federation of Humane Societies (posted 6/16/10)

Are you in Northern Virginia and want to help to end pet overpopulation? The Virginia Federation of Humane Societies is seeking applications for a part-time Spay Virginia (www.spayva.org) hotline operator. The hotline operates from 10 am to 2 pm each weekday (excluding holidays); the position requires at most 20 hours per week and is paid hourly. The hotline operator can work out of his or her home, and should have a computer with reliable internet connection available to log onto the call database. In addition to answering calls to help pet owners to locate low cost spay/neuter services and logging information about those calls, the hotline operator’s duties will include contacting animal welfare organizations about their spay/neuter programs and updating the Spay Virginia database if needed. Ability to work independently, good verbal and written skills, and basic computer skills are a must. Knowledge of animal welfare organizations in Virginia, VFHS and the Spay Virginia project are a plus. VFHS is an equal opportunity employer. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (posted 4/1/10)

Heritage Humane Society seeks a dynamic leader with a proven commitment to animal welfare.

Using a broad knowledge of the shelter industry and nonprofit management, the executive director: establishes shelter procedures to ensure a safe environment, compliance with government regulations, and courteous customer service; develops the annual budget for board approval and manages the organization within the budget; hires, retains and removes staff as needed; sets goals for humane education, maximum adoption, spay/neuter, volunteers and fosters, and other programs; manages fundraising and development, marketing, public relations and works with HHS Auxiliary on special events; is the principal liaison with local government partners, area veterinarians, and regional humane organizations and rescue groups; and serves as the primary HHS spokesperson to the wider community.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organization skills; financial management experience; and an ability to interact professionally with staff, volunteers, donors, local government partners, the public, and the Board of Directors. A college degree and three or more years experience in an animal welfare organization is preferred. Salary commensurate with experience.
