This fund memorializes former VFHS Board President Debra Griggs who passed away in November 2023. Created on her birthday, November 11th, this fund will provide financial and/or in-kind support to VFHS members tackling an urgent large-scale animal need in their community.
Debra was a tenacious, fierce and effective advocate for all animals. Whether walking the halls of the Virginia General Assembly to climbing a fence to save a dog in need, Debra's dedication was infectious and her effectiveness unmatched. Debra worked tirelessly with individuals and organizations across the Commonwealth to provide thoughtful guidance and support to a variety of issues, big or small.
This fund will provide support for VFHS members on an as-needed basis for one-time larger scale animal needs and situations including but not limited to: hoarding, abandonment, and natural disaster. Applications will be considered throughout the year.
Donating to the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies means that you are supporting a vast array of initiatives focused on animals and their caregivers, including education, advocacy and efforts to reduce pet overpopulation in Virginia.
You may make a General Donation or specify that your donation is for High 5 Transport Program, the Spay Virginia project or the Scholarship Fund.

Give yourself a tax break!! If you are expecting a tax refund on your Virginia State Taxes, you may designate any portion or all of your refund to support animal welfare thru the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies. You will receive a receipt for your donation, which you can claim on your next year's tax return.
